Thrilling news! Hello Pretty City concert on 8/22!

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

The third ever Hello Pretty City concert is going to be so sweet! Why? Because Olivia Quillio and Viking Moses are playing their amazing songs with their amazing voices and stage presence. Also playing are Joey Demarco and Mother McKenzie. I’ve never seen them live but I’m loving the music that they have on their Bandcamp sites. (Links to everyone are below.)

Next week’s Hello Pretty City show

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

A little bit of the Local 518, a little bit rock, a lot of hand clapping, and a lot of songs that I’d like to keep on repeat forever.

Holy no way! Awesome concert! Phantogram!

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

It’s not easy to write this post because in reality I’d really like to run up to you, hug you, and exclaim “Phantogram and The Charlie Watts Riots are playing the Exit Dome 4 concert!” The show is Saturday, January 29, 2011 and it happens in WMHT’s TV studio.

Last year’s Exit Dome has a special place in my heart and now I’m even more excited about this year’s show. Also playing are Local 518 bands Que Caro,  The Rodeo Barons, Nancy Walker, and Slender Shoulders. The doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. Snag your tickets now at www.exit977.org. (The tickets are listed in the “Thank you gifts” section.)

Reading out loud to you

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Do you think you’ll be hanging around Stuyvesant Plaza next Saturday, November 6? If so, stop by the Book House and sign my autograph book.

I’ll definitely be there around/at 11:20 because that’s when I’ll be reading part of “To Kill A Mockingbird” in the “Mockingbird Marathon: To Kill A Saturday.” A bunch of people are going to take turns reading the whole book starting at 9am and finishing up around 9pm. It’s a little 50th anniversary party for the book!

I’m pretty psyched to meet David Guistina from WAMC since I listen to him on the radio every morning. My reading time slot is at 11:20 just before his. (I hope he’ll sign my autograph book.)

Have fun on the Mockingbird Marathon Face Book page here and read mockingbird tweets here.

Restoration Funstival in Albany soon

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

The folks at WEXT are getting pretty psyched to be a big part of the Restoration Funstival that’s happening at the end of August. A two day music festival in Albany! It’s happening from noon to 10pm at St. Joseph’s Church on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29.

The poster for the event is pretty cool looking and the musical lineup is gigantic. Here are a random few: Matthew Carefully, Aficionado, the Mathematicians, Railbird, RESTYS, The Red Lions, Grainbelt, Scientific Maps, Beware! The Other Head of Science and Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned.

There are lots of great things about this Funstival but this is my favorite:  25% of all proceeds will go to the St. Joseph’s Restoration fund to support their $300,000 matched grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. I hear that the inside of St. Joseph’s is very cool, a good place to let a mind wander during a music set.

Right now, tickets are on sale online for the early bird price of $10.00 per day and $15.00 for the whole weekend at www.restfest.net. (I love that there’s an early bird feature.)

Poseter for Restoration Funstival

WEXT, All Over Albany, B3nson Recording Company, and Historic Albany Foundation are the sponsors of the Restoration Funstival.

A “best” from Metroland!

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

This past Thursday Metroland named Hello Pretty City as “Best Indie Rock Radio Show” of 2010! I was smiling and beaming all day! To read the little write up click here and then scroll way down!

More importantly, I think of you and me and how sometimes Hello Pretty City seems like more than just a radio show. It’s a feeling…a smile…a toe tapping…a gratefulness. And it wouldn’t feel this way without you…smiling, toe tapping, and listening.

Thank you for being a listener of Hello Pretty City. (And thank you Metroland!)

First show on 97.7 is coming up in 5 days! And Radio Mogadishu

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Hey there! The first Hello Pretty City show on Exit 97.7 is nearly here! I even know what the first song is going to be! I’m starting to pick out songs for upcoming shows, too. Last week I checked out the newest Ben Kweller album from the library and I really like it.

Today I read a great story about Radio Mogadishu in the New York Times. Here’s the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/world/africa/30mogadishu.html

Today is my last show on WRPI

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I’m sad to write this to you: Today is my last show on WRPI, 91.5fm. But there is happy news: Hello Pretty City is moving to WEXT, 97.7fm and online at www.exit977.org!!!

The new day and time slot will be decided soon and I will write it here when I know. I hope that the first show on WEXT will be next week. I hope you will consider coming to the Hello Pretty City concert this Friday night at Valentines. Four amazing bands will be there to help us celebrate seven years of Hello Pretty City: Brown Bird, The Charlie Watts Riots, Pony in the Pancake, and The Landlines. Starts at 8 and costs $8. It will feel good to be there!

Please, kind listener, know that I’m not leaving WRPI for any reason other than my schedule is changing and I need to be at work on weekday mornings. I am truly thankful to be able to find a way to continue doing the radio show, even though it will be on another station.

The staff, students, and community members of WRPI have shown me the utmost kindness, sincerity, and support during this process. (When you listen to WRPI, keep an ear open for my voice, as I’m hoping to fill-in for other djs as needed, especially during the summer.)
